NJEA Holds Press Conference on Pension & Benefits Proposals

By Michael Aron

NJEA President Barbara Keshishian blasted Senate President Steve Sweeney’s bill, set for its first hearing Thursday.  She called it a terrible proposal that does nothing to hold down health care costs, doubles the amount the average public worker will pay for his or her benefits and violates a long-standing tradition of collective bargaining on health care.

I find NJEA offensive on so many levels. There is always money in seemingly unending amounts for TV sponsorships and advertisements. That they have sponsored NJN News forever (?) and yet NJN has maintained suitable objectivity in reporting about the conflict between the teachers’ union and Christie is amazing. I watch news casts out of NY & Philadelphia, and their negative TV ads are frequent at both venues.

The only criticism I would level at NJEA’s individual members involves the blind loyalty of who knows how many, as evidenced by the request of a dear friend, and retired teacher, who needed to find the place on the internet which told her how the union wanted her to vote in the November 2010 election. An otherwise intelligent, vibrant person, save for that.

the proposal sends a bad message to americans, saying that due process has NO SAY.
