The Legal Advocacy Group and the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic are appealing the decision of the NJ Higher Education Assistance Authority on behalf of a high school student who was denied tuition assistance because her mother is an illegal immigrant. The denial of aid to the student, who is being referred to as “AZ,” violates equal protection laws, and parent’s immigration status is not listed as a factor in the legislation that created the tuition program, stated an advocacy spokesperson.
