Self-Help Center Opens at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital

By Sara Lee Kessler

The new self-help center at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, which helps prepare patients for discharge, is named for one of Greystone’s most famous patients: Woody Guthrie.  The iconic folk legend, who suffered Huntington’s-related dementia, lived at Greystone for two years, in the 1950’s.  The center offers peer support to patients who are about to be discharged and is a meeting place for current and former patients who are already living  in the community.
