Governor Unveils Education Bills Targeting Teacher Tenure and Merit Pay

Governor Christie unveiled a seven-bill package of legislation aimed at tightening teacher tenure rules and linking their pay to their performance.  The first bill would set up a statewide teacher evaluation system by the 2012-2013 school year.  Teachers currently get automatic tenure after three years on the job.  Christie would make that four years and not automatic.
