Lawmakers Who Collect Pension and Salary on the Defensive

Assemblyman Sam Thompson resents being dubbed a “double-dipper” for drawing a public paycheck and pension simultaneously since it is a legal practice in New Jersey.  Thompson started collecting his pension in 1997 – seven months before he was elected to the lower house.  State Senator Loretta Weinberg also collects a pension and salary but says there are different permutations for each case.  Weinberg says while she feels her decision was appropriate, public figures deserve to be cross-examined and its time to revisit the law.
