AFL-CIO Event Commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King & Economic Justice

By Jerry Henry

The event was called, A Day to Stand in Solidarity, noting that Dr. King was assassinated while in Memphis supporting striking sanitation workers.  Union leaders say workers today face many of the threats to collective bargaining that were fought for in the sixties.  A panel discussion included Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.  Congressman Rush Holt and Senator Bob Menendez also participated in the event.
