Health & Senior Services Commissioner Poonam Alaigh Resigns

By Marie DeNoia Aronsohn

After just a year on the job, State Health Commissioner, Poonam Alaigh has tendered her resignation.  She said an urgent illness in the family drove the decision.  Her announcement comes the same day Deputy Health Commissioner Susan Walsh’s resignation becomes effective.  Now members of the medical community are questioning Governor Christie’s intended nominee to replace Alaigh.  The Medical Society of New Jersey is not sure it will be able to endorse Mary O’Dowd because she is not a physician.
