Crime-ridden Camden Rehires Police Officers and Firefighters

Back in January, nearly half the city’s police force and a third of the fire department were laid off. The move brought fear to the streets of the state’s poorest city and an embarrassing national spotlight. Now, Mayor Dana Redd says dozens of those cops will be back on the beat and more firefighters in firehouses. But the move, the mayor says, is just a short-term fix to a long-term problem.
