Assembly to Hold Hearing on Ramifications of Closing Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital

By Zachary Fink

Hagedorn is one of four state psychiatric hospitals in New Jersey.  The high cost of providing patient care, 275,000 dollars a year per patient compared to 50 to 60 thousand per year at community based facilities, came under scrutiny.  Former Governor Dick Codey, who has supported mental health issues in the past, was part of the Hagedorn task force which voted not to close the facility.
