On Monday the Governor called a one o’clock news conference in his outer office to announce that 71 more employees of the embattled Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission were being terminated. That is on top of 23 fired in the past two weeks, three of whom were also arrested.
After the announcement, Christie took questions for nearly 50 minutes on subjects ranging from the new “Gateway” tunnel proposal to pension and benefit reform; public safety in the cities; COAH; a cable TV tax; his trip to Illinois; some budget questions; the scheduled 2012 Turnpike toll increase the Democrats want to roll back; the Waterfront Commission; and the status of the property-tax “toolkit” (5 of the 20 bills have been passed by the Legislature). Overall, a vintage Christie performance that lasts over an hour.
