Camden Mass Layoffs

One hundred and sixty-eight police officers, nearly one-half of the police force in Camden, turned in their badges while one-third of the firefighters and 100 other municipal workers were let go in the face of budget cuts. Mayor Dana Redd placed the blame on police and fire unions, whom she says wouldn’t make serious concessions to save jobs.  While police and fire union leaders say they’ve tried to negotiate with the city but to no avail.
