At a news conference at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, state Health Commissioner Poonam Alaigh made it clear that she wants to tear down the barriers to blood donation. Sixty-percent of New Jersey’s adults are eligible to donate blood. Yet, only 3.6 percent do so on a regular basis. Last year, that caused New Jersey to have to import 40,000 units of blood from other states.
