Newark Police Layoffs Take Effect

The layoff of 167 Newark police officers marks the largest police force reduction in 32 years.  Mayor Cory Booker, in explaining the city’s position on the layoffs, placed the blame squarely on the Fraternal Order of Police Union Leaders.  Booker claims the union refuses to make necessary concessions that would save jobs.
