The Federal Transit Administration in Washington has presented a bill for 271 million dollars plus interest and penalty charges to New Jersey Transit to compensate for the money they invested in the cancelled ARC Tunnel project. Governor Christie cited cost overruns as the reason for cancelling the largest public works project in the nation. Now funds that were invested by the federal government need to be repaid. An audit of how the money was spent is also being launched.
