A senate committee has taken up a bill that would tackle arbitration reform. The bill, sponsored by Republican Senator Michael Doherty, would cap salary increases at two percent. It is one of the most critical reforms in Governor Christie’s tool kit. This past summer lawmakers passed a two percent cap on local property tax increases, but mayor’s say without this bill and others like it in the proposed “tool kit” that cap will be virtually impossible to meet. Testimony was heard today without a vote. Unions oppose the salary cap.
