Committee Agrees to Borrow Money to Keep Transportation Projects Flowing

By Zachary Fink
Members of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee ( JBOC ) have approved a bond sale putting hundreds of construction workers back to work. On Friday the Christie administration ordered a halt to all state transportation construction projects claiming there is not enough money in the state’s Transportation Trust Fund. JBOC voted today to authorize the bond sale infusing $1.25 billion into the fund, but Democrats on the committee accused the Christie Administration of failing to come up with a long-term funding plan. That led to some testy exchanges during the hearing between Democrats and DOT Commissioner Jim Simpson.
