Dual Office Holders Banned From Receiving More than One Salary

As part of Governor Chris Christie’s Reform Agenda, public employees who hold two offices will be restricted to one salary. “The ban on collecting two public salaries also would put an end to a traditional New Jersey practice, he said. “One public salary per person is enough,” Christie said, adding that a person “can’t serve two masters at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Democrats are accusing the Republican Governor of using his ethics reform package as a ploy to divert attention from his administration’s federal education funding fiasco which cost New Jersey $400 million in education aid. The Governor’s ban on dual office holding is also generating an angry response from members of Legislature who hold more than one office.
