Senate President Sweeney’s Health & Pension Bill Comes before Senate Budget Committee

A vocal crowd of union members packed room 4, at the statehouse annex, cheering and hissing individual senators as they entered. Senate President Steve Sweeney, an iron worker union leader by trade, was the first witness. Sweeney explained he’s been trying to save worker pensions and rein in their expensive health benefits that are bankrupting state and local government.
