Senator Teresa Ruiz (D) has introduced a teacher tenure reform bill that would increase the number of years new teachers must work before receiving tenure from three to four years. It also requires annual teacher evaluations based on student performance, a poor rating would result in remediation; a second consecutive poor rating would result in a teacher’s tenure being revoked. The bill comes a week after Republicans introduced their version, sponsored by Senator Joe Kyrillos, and supported by the Governor.
