Almost immediately after the New Jersey Supreme Court issued its ruling, ordering more funding for high-poverty schools, speculation flared about tensions between the so-called Abbott and suburban districts. The 3-2 opinion calls on the state to give the 31 Abbotts an additional 500 million dollars but neglects to mention the 174 other school districts that are also considered to be “underfunded.” Piscataway Schools make up one such district. Officials there say they are 9 million dollars underfunded and have the scars and the program cuts to prove it.
