Perth Amboy Agrees to Pay Chevron

The city of Perth Amboy has agreed to pay more than seven million dollars in back taxes to the Chevron Oil Corporation and will now seek to borrow the money to make good on that promise. Perth Amboy has the third highest non-school municipal debt of any municipality in the state. When a city-wide property tax revaluation raised Chevron Oil Corporation’s taxes from 59.8 million dollars to 199.8 million they paid but then investigated the value jump and found grounds for a formal dispute.
