Supporters of Opportunity Scholarship Act Hold Rally before Assembly Public Budget Hearing

By Dari Mandell

Before the public Assembly Budget Committee hearing began the group We Can Do Better New Jersey held a rally outside in support of the Opportunity Scholarship Act.  The proposed five-year pilot program would give students who go to failing public schools, the opportunity to choose a different one.  More than 50 people from business organizations, interest groups and educational institutions testified before the committee.

  1. Janis Remolino says:

I don’t see anyone addressing the real problem, more important than financial support is parental support, regardless of public or charter school. This is a sensitive but urgent issue that should be addressed.

Newark’s school system is failing; however, there was enough interest and finances for a new school stadium. Sport Celebrity is a limited field, it appears to me there is more emphasis on sports than education, which can always make a better and successful life. Too any sport figures have not endured their stardom very well because the opportunity for an education was not stressed to help them sustain their fame and fortune.
