Newark Education Plan Controversy

What’s next for Newark Schools? The pressure is building in the Brick City. Residents are asking questions about the effort to overhaul the city’s failing public schools, and now, so is the local chapter of the NAACP. A proposal that involves restructuring some 22 schools has sparked anger and questions and has fed a mounting sense of distrust among some residents and education leaders. The mayor is promising transparency and inclusion and has staked his political future on turning the school district around. But the Newark chapter of the NAACP says the mayor has denied its request for more specific information about that famous 100 million dollar gift from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
