Acting Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf laid out the structure of education reforms today that until now had only been discussed in broad strokes. Cerf spoke of the necessity for changing the current system arguing that achievement gaps between white and black students remain unacceptably high. The proposed teacher reforms break down into five general categories. They are: introducing a new system of evaluations, changing tenure, ending mutual consents, reevaluating the current system of seniority and addressing compensation.
