Lawyers for Mary Beth Whitehead, the mother of a baby legally called Melissa Stern, went before the New Jersey Supreme Court to argue that a lower court’s ruling granting custody to the child’s biological father, William Stern, should be overturned.  The baby M child custody case raised many surrogacy issues.
