Twelfth District candidates Rush Holt and Scott Sipprelle faced off today in a one-hour debate at Rider University. Holt is the Democratic incumbent, Sipprelle, a hedge fund manager, is the Republican challenger. They agreed that the time for America to disengage from Afghanistan has arrived. But they disagreed, harshly at times, over TARP, financial regulatory reform, the business strategy of House Democrats, Israel and humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the new health care reform law. Sipprelle compared it to socialized medicine. Holt pointed to his physician wife in the audience and said she has told him how important and valuable the new law is.
